This conversation made me realize that maybe this is the time for me to share. Some people may be experiencing a form of depression for the first time since adjusting to COVID-19; others may recognize their uncomfortable feelings and not know how to process them in this weird time. Maybe my sharing will provide some insight. Maybe it will just make me feel better. Either way, I’m gonna do it.

Ahhh the perils of puberty. It’s hard on everybody. Every woman can relate to what our protagonist Dawn experiences in the film. The hormones, the awkwardness, the confusion, the second pair of teeth she discovers in her…HOLD ON…wait…is that a real thing?
For the remainder of grade school, my weight fluctuated and my need to control the situation grew stronger. It didn’t help that there was virtually no representation of body positivity in popular culture. I wanted to be an actor and naturally looked up to women in the industry. I struggled to see myself reflected in the beauty standards held by Hollywood.
